I have successfully revived numerous laptops that had everything from water to a full cup of coffee spilled on them. If you can get the unit to a qualified laptop service tech, there may be no need to replace the motherboard. perhaps unlikely but I wouldn't be sad to see it happen. I sincerely hope DELL tanks at some point. BE WARE People - just gouging you on anything for money. Thanks to those who posted helpful insight. And be rest assured I'll be spreading this story on facebook, twitter, and elsewhere so people know how your conduct "Your Business". I will use this laptop until its done - but after that - I will never purchase another DELL product for myself, my business or my family. I will be spreading the word of your "warranty" habits, and customer service.
As a business owner, I truly disgusted by your handling of this from a customer service perspective, and just in general. This is the filthiest, slimiest move I've ever had to deal with in business.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME DELL! You tried to gouge me $499 - when clearly you knew what wrong, and how to "fix it". Fired it up - and VOILA! It fired up and runs perfect. So on a WILD GUESS - I plugged it back in. I'm no expert but the one thing that did look odd to me was the fact that the the end of the cable that attaches from the LCD monitor to the Motherboard - was NOT connected at all - in fact not even close. which i gently scraped off with my finger nail. just some faint and I mean very faint residue on the top of the board. And the two other spots - I'm no expert but I would argue there is NO damage by looking at it.
was just on the metal plate under the keyboard - no biggie. Well once I get inside what do I find but three little orange sticky arrows pointing to what they called water damage - 1. Just as I am about to purchase a new laptop - ($495 Asus as my patience and expectations with DELL are running thin) - I decide "well, why not just open this thing up and have a look myself and just mess around for the hell of it since I'm not willing to pay $499 to have it fixed by DELL". So frustrated, and mad at the customers service - despite wanting to slap my poor nephew lol. "$499 is the dell price, and you really should buy this repair because you can't replace that same computer for this price". "$499 is a good value sir for this type or repair". I've called a few times trying to get some resolution or help and all i get is the response - "$499 repair sir, its the same for all our customers".
Even though its my fault a $500 fix on a $900 unit seems very excessive, and poor customer service since its less than a year old (even though I realize its my own doing, it seems like a gouge). I've been a dell customer since 94 with all my products and havent really ever had a complaint until now. My question is the laptop at the time cost me $900, is it worth another $500 to fix it, or should I just cut my losses and abandon DELL altogether and go with a laptop somewhere else and spend the $500 on something new. When i try to start it up, it seems as though everything is firing up except that there at 8 beeps (signaling video problem?). Dell looked it over and determined the water damage caused the motherboard now to be replaced and want $500 to do so. We have access to thousands of Apple parts but only those in high demand are listed on our site.I have a Dell Inspiron 15R (n5010) - I bought less than a year ago.
